Defense industry as a driver of economic growth and innovation: kmbs launches a new program for the development of Ukraine's weapons system
On September 16, 2021, the "Strategic Program for the Development of Liberation Systems" was distributed within the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School (kmbs) walls, with representatives of the leadership of the forces on cooperation and defense industry of Ukrai

During the program for 6 months, 40 managers from 19 institutions will work on developing a new design of Ukraine's weapons system, which will ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of the defense industry and have a positive impact on economic and technological development.

"It is difficult to overestimate the contribution of Ukraine's defense system to deterring the aggressor, economic and technological development of the state, its prosperity. The armament system is one of the key components of this development. Within the framework of this Program, we will work on developing a new design of the defense industry system, the expansion of intersectoral cooperation, and the formation of a new culture," said Gelena Savruk, Program Manager.

The Kyiv-Mohyla Business School developed the program with the state concern Ukroboronprom and the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom. The Program is based on the methodology of design of state systems and business ecosystems and five years of experience of kmbs in ensuring the professional development of top management in the security and defense sector.

Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksandr Nosov and Director General of the State Concern Ukroboronprom Yuriy Gusev expressed support for the Program and congratulated the participants.

"This is an important program that will review the future of Ukraine's defense industry. A new look at the defense complex and openness to cooperation with partners will strengthen the impact on the procurement and export system, will contribute to the development of Ukraine," said Oleksandr Nosov.

The strategic program for developing the weapons system consists of three integrated levels and focuses on strengthening the institutional core of Ukraine's defense industry. The first level participants were representatives of the leadership of the Office of the President of Ukraine, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the state concern Ukroboronprom and 14 other institutions.

"The expected result of the Program is the successful implementation of the priorities of the Government of Ukraine in the defense sector and a completely new design of the defense industry. You will have the opportunity to deepen and increase interdepartmental and intersectoral cooperation and cooperation, which is the key to the successful further implementation of the new business model of the military complex. This is extremely important for Ukraine's national security and its ability to defend democracy, demonstrating steady progress towards Euro-Atlantic integration," said Nicolas Harrocks, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Ukraine.

During the training, participants will have the opportunity to learn from the experience of innovation development and interaction with stakeholders from the Program partners from the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom and learn the successful experience of weapons development systems in other countries.

It is expected that graduates of the program will become leaders in the change in their institutions and implement the developed models of defense industry development through the prism of priorities set by the President of Ukraine on the use of public-private partnership military-technological cooperation in Ukraine's defense industry. Involving a large number of stakeholders in the process will facilitate the introduction of an integrated and focused approach to developing the technological and economic potential of Ukraine's defense industry.

“It is essential to understand, balance, help, and use all the benefits of the systems. During the training, we will work on creating a design that will ensure the defense and development of our country in various aspects. The experience that the participants bring, their strength and competencies will help to look at the situation in a new way, to develop new approaches to move the development of our country forward," summed up the dean of Kyiv-Mohyla Business School Olexandr Savruk.
